John Beaton

Obituary of John Beaton

We celebrate John Raymond Beaton as he crossed over to be home with his Father-God. John was the youngest son of Charles and Wilma Beaton originally from Piapot and Dilke Saskatchewan. John was born in Kelowna BC on April 20th, 1940. He grew up in Pioneer Mines during WWII where his Dad mined gold in the Home Guard. In 1947 he moved to Kimberley BC where his Dad worked for the Sullivan Mines. Here he grew up with his brothers Bud and George and sister Faye and grew to love skiing, fishing, camping and hunting. Life for him was always an adventure.

He married Peg in 1970 and they moved throughout BC with the mining and lumber industries. In 2002 in his retirement, they moved to Saskatchewan where they established a home and acreage, he called his “Shangri-La”.  John had a language of his own that kept everyone on their toes trying to figure out what he was saying. He loved to make people laugh as he believed you need those endorphins working in your brain. He continually reminded us “You will miss me when I am gone” and that we will.

John leaves to celebrate his life his wife Peg, daughter Fawn and husband Ryan Fritz. Granddaughter Simone; Grandson Lane and wife Lexi and great granddaughters Loretta Lynn and Clara May; grandson Hoss and wife Annie. Son Johnny and wife Ann Davidson and granddaughter Lily Anna. Son Chuck and wife Coralee and grandson Koda. Son Guy Katona and wife Catherine and grandsons Michael Rheault and Dan A Nd with wife Carly and great grand children Hardy and Phee. His brothers Bud, George and sister Faye, nieces and nephews.

Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Eshawesh who saw John’s health clearly and referred him to Palliative Care Nov 1, 2021. Here under the direction of Kim Rutzki we were cared for at home by Cailie and other nurses from Esterhazy Home Care. We are ever so grateful as with your continual support we were able to be at home, John’s love, his Shangri-La.

To our oxygen team from Careica – Jessica, Krista, Stephanie, Ed and Mike who kept John supplied with the best of equipment and oxygen. Thank you!

Again, with Kim at the helm we were guided to hospital for reassessment March 11, 2024, never to come home. The writing was on the wall and we did not see it, but Kim and Cailie did. Thank you!

To the staff at St Peter’s Catholic Hospital who saw us through a challenging 3 weeks as we came to grips with reality. Thank you! A special thanks to the Nurses and Care aides too many to name from St. Paul’s Lutheran Home, who saw John and our family through to his peaceful end. For the Chaplins’ Dawn and Brian, for Father Michael from St. Henry’s and Deacon Dave. Thank you for the spiritual guidance for John into our heavenly kingdom.

The Funeral Mass was held on Friday, May 17, 2024 from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church, Melville with Rev. Fr. Michal Pajak as Celebrant. Len Gadica led the congregation in the hymns. The urn bearers were John's sons Chuck and Guy.
