Alfred Frederick Edwards

It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred Edwards announces his passing on April 21, 2024, at the age of 93.

Al was born in Yorkton on June 9, 1930. After graduating from Yorkton Collegiate Institute in 1948, he went on to work for CP Railroad. On November 30, 1954, Al married his one true love, Irene Lange. They were blessed with four children: Dennis, Garry, and twins Karen and Kelly.

They lived in Regina for a brief time, then in 1962, Al and Irene moved the young family to Lower Post Mile 620 Alaska Highway, British Columbia, to embark on a business opportunity operating a hotel, gas station, and general store. The rustic lifestyle created many memories and lifelong relationships. Irene and Al were active in the community and avid club curlers.

In 1973, the family moved back to Yorkton after the business was sold to be closer to family. Al took employment at Morris Rod Weeder in the parts department and Irene worked at Parker and Quine chartered accountants.

Al and Irene were married for 31 years when Irene passed away after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 51. Al was very devoted to his family and was always there to support his children after Irene’s passing. He taught his children to be hardworking and respectful.

When Morris Rod Wheeler downsized, Al started working at Royal Ford Gas Station and Car Wash until his retirement.

Al took several trips after retirement: a bus trip to the Maritimes, a bus trip to Alaska, and a train trip to Churchill to see the polar bears.

Grandpa Al loved to spend time with his family, playing cards and board games. Al enjoyed walking every day to the Parkland Mall to have coffee with friends.

Al had a true passion for watching old movies. He would watch movies for hours to pass the time at the nursing home.

Al was predeceased by his loving wife Irene (Lange); his parents Frederick and Eva Edwards; his sister Corinne Edwards; son Garry Edwards; brother-in-law Bob Lange; sister-in-law June Tammi; and mother and father-in-law Bertha and Leonard Lange.

Al is lovingly remembered by his son Dennis; son Kelly (Theresa) Edwards; daughter Karen (Craig) Carnduff; grandchildren Michael Edwards, Melissa (Kurt) McKee, Gage Carnduff, Samantha Carnduff, great-grandson Liam Edwards; and sister-in-law Barbara Lange.

The family requests memorial donations to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
