Derek Edwin Schick, 45, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2024. Derek was born on April 28, 1979 to Garth and Karen (Broda) Schick in Melville, Saskatchewan. Derek moved to Rosetown with his family in 1991 where he graduated high school in 1997. After Derek graduated high school, he played junior b hockey in the SSJHL for a brief time with the Grenfell Storm. He lived in Vernon, British Columbia before moving to Red Deer, Alberta for 7 years. Derek then moved back to Saskatchewan for a few years where he was able to spend time with family. He was most recently working and living in Grande Prairie, Alberta where he operated his own company working in the oil field.

Derek loved spending time with family, friends, and his pets. He loved dogs; he almost always had a pet dog throughout his entire life. He was an avid Vancouver Canucks fan. Just days before he passed away, he was able fulfill a lifetime dream to travel to Vancouver to watch a playoff game. He enjoyed playing recreational hockey, camping, fishing, and working out. Derek was always trying to outfish his dad. He will be remembered by those close to him for being one of the most kind, thoughtful and caring human beings. Derek will be missed for his playful, teasing, and silly personality; his nephews nickname for him was “silly bear”

Derek was predeceased by his Grandparents Elmer Schick, Martha (Berner) Schick, Joseph Broda, Theresa (Ludwar) Broda, his aunt, Tammy Broda, and his pet dogs Lexi and Maverick. He is survived by his parents Garth and Karen (Broda) Schick, his brother Jeremy, his sister Kayla, his three nephews, Braxton, Connor and Kason and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an animal rescue of your choice, a cause he felt strongly about.
