Lyle Straker

Obituary of Lyle Straker

The family of Lyle Straker of Yorkton and formerly of the Bangor District, beloved husband of Jean Straker sadly announce his passing on June 9, 2024.

Garnet “Lyle” Straker was born on January 14, 1947 to Cecil and Helen Straker from Bangor.

Lyle attended Aston School in the country and helped out on the family farm during his childhood. He enjoyed when his cousin Donald would come to visit for the summers and we still today hear stories of their shenanigans.

Lyle worked on the oil rigs for a few years, then went to Edmonton and worked in a Manufacturing plant before moving back home to help on the family farm. It was while helping his sister Gail and her husband Ernie at their farm that he met the love of his life, Jean.  Lyle and Jean got married in 1974 and moved to the family farm near Bangor.  They were blessed with 4 children Craig in 1975, Ian 1977, Erin 1979, and Kendra in 1982.

Lyle and Jean continued farming, adding on a pedigree seed and seed cleaning business. They retired off the farm in 2005 and moved into Yorkton. Over the years Lyle enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting with random strangers, curling, fishing and golf. He was very proud of his children and their spouses and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and orange cats. He was a carefree, happy go lucky kinda guy, everyone he met he made a friendship with instantly.

Lyle was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Helen Straker, sister Joan and brother-in-law Ernie Fuchs.

Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jean, son Craig (Tracy) Levi and Colby, son Ian (Shelly), daughter Erin (Jason) Ethan, Alex and Taiya, daughter Kendra (Derek) Brandon, Olivia and Sophia, sisters Gail Fuchs and Merle (Vernon) Glaicar and his brother Jim (Debbie).

The Memorial Service was held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Doreen Day, Certified Celebrant officiating. The inurnment followed in the Trinity Columbarium, Garden of Memories, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jean Straker serving as urn bearer.
