Metro Dlugan

Obituary of Metro Dlugan

Metro (Matt) Dlugan of Yorkton, beloved husband of Elizabeth Dlugan, sadly announce his passing on June 10, 2024.

Metro (Matt) Dlugan was born on November 9, 1937 in West Bend, SK.  He was the oldest of 11 surviving children of Catherine and Michael Dlugan.  Matt moved away from the farm around 20 years old to the big city of Yorkton – where he spent the next 66 years until his passing.

Matt began work for Morris Rodweeder Co. Ltd. on May 1, 1960. His rate of pay as a welder was $.91 per hour and he worked 44 hours per week. Over the years he progressed with the company through various positions, welding supervisor, shift supervisor, Testing Co-ordinator, R&D, Service Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, Plant Superintendent, Production Manager, Service Manager/ OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and lastly, Service Manager.

On April 3, 1992 Wendy Morris, while introducing Matt to some visiting business personnel, told them that “Metro was the most versatile employee of Morris Industries. He has experience and knowledge in every aspect of the company”.

Matt married Elizabeth in 1959 and together raised 6 children – Dennis, Terrance+, Karen, Kenneth, Allan and Andrew.  Together they instilled the value of education and hard work and were always proud of the Accountant, Teacher, and 3 Engineers they had sent out into the world.  Each of them are happily married to Winnie, Tim, Gloria, Julie and Marilyn.  They were further blessed with 4 grandchildren – Alia, Matthew, Emery and Natalia.

Matt retired after 37-1/2 years at Morris to his summer hobby of Golf and winter hobby of Woodworking.  All his children and a few relatives have many of Matt’s fine oak wood furniture in their homes.  His summer hobby of golf was a good balance to his winter hobby.  In his retirement – Matt’s neighbors benefitted from his free time with many a clean driveway with his handy snowblower.  A tribute to this goodwill were the many neighbors that returned the favor these past 2 winters as age made this task difficult for him.

Matt was predeceased by his parents Catherine and Michael, sisters Myrtle and Verna and son Terrance.  He is survived by his siblings Audrey, Robert, Jenny, Edna, Theresa, Peter, Iris, and Angeline. He is also survived by his wife Elizabeth and their children, spouses and grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
