Violet Kerestesh

Obituary of Violet Kerestesh

Violet was married to the love of her life William (Willie) Kerestesh May 22nd 1949. They moved to a farm north of Fenwood close to Willie’s parent’s farm. Their son Dale was born on September 30th 1952. They moved to Fenwood in 1958 and took over the post office and moved it to a new location on Main Street, which was renovated to be the office and the family home. They continued to enjoy visits and formed new friendships over the years. They began a love for travel with a train trip to BC to visit Violet’s parents and youngest siblings Gerry and Janice and sister Mary’s family. A couple years later they flew to Calgary to visit Willies brother’s family (Steve, Agnes, nephews Gerald and Larry). In 1969 they took a bus tour of Europe. Over the years there were many more trips including Expo 67, Hungary and Austria, California, Hawaii, Florida and several trips to BC to visit relatives.

Willie passed away in 1985 and Violet continued to run the post office. Dale married Tracy Edwards the same year and they had two wonderful children Kelsi and Raina. They have many fond memories of visiting with their grandma sometimes staying overnight. They would play games and work with her in her garden. She showed them how to bake buns and her famous cheesecake. Violet maintained friendships in her years in Fenwood and had frequent visits from her brother’s Ed and Gordon and their families. The times her sister Mary stayed with her were very special.

Violet retired in 1999 and moved to Melville where she enjoyed family visits and time with friends. She maintained an active social life and enjoyed some trips abroad travelling with her sister Ruth and Gordon and Joyce’s family. She enjoyed family trips with Dale, Tracy, Kelsi, Raina and Dennie and Irene Edwards including Hawaii and Disney World. A trip to Israel was a highlight for Violet. She enjoyed Caribbean cruise as well.

Violet was a beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She would always make you feel welcome in her home. Shirley Ulmer, Rose Miller and Beatrice Molnar were special friends.

Violet was predeceased by her husband Willie, sister Mary, brother Edward and nephew Gerald Kerestesh, brothers-in-law (Frank) Zulyniak and (Alec) Lypka, sister-in-law Sandra Lutz and great grandson Lucian.
