It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Halushka announce her passing on July 10th, 2024 in Melville, Sask. Helen was  91 years of age. She was born on October 6th 1932 to Steve and Mary Lukany (Kitzul) whose family farm was S.W. of Jedburgh, Sask. As a child she attended Forest Nook School. She often talked about walking to school on cold wintery days, not for someone that was not tough. However, her older sister Katie always accompanied her to class. In her youth Helen often peddled her bike 10 miles to her grandparent’s place. Visiting with her grandparents was a very fond memory which she carried with her all her life.

Helen remained on the family farm until she met and then married Alex Halushka in November of 1950. Soon after Alex & Helen purchased their own farm. She remained on the family farm until fall of 1997 until Alex got ill, then continued living on her own in Yorkton until May of 2024. She was a very independent woman.

The family farm was where their four children were born.

Helen struggled with many hardships on the farm, both physical and financial. But food and loving care were never shorted. She planted giant gardens always, also growing her favorite dahlias yearly as well as favourite house plants like the geranium.

Helen had a run with 3 cancers, and beat them all. After Alex passed away in 1998, she decided that it was time for her to get her drivers license. She hired an instructor and passed her driving exam. Well done. This gave mom the freedom to drive and check out her treasures that she left at the family farm. Driving also allowed her to drive for her own groceries, and of course garage sales. Up until her passing mom habitually always saved every "thing" that passed through her hands. Save, Save, Save, this was ingrained in her.

One other thing Helen lived for was the phone, she loved to talk, talk, and talk, the line could be busy for hours on end. This passion for the phone continued right up to 2 days before her passing. She was in hospital, had her cell phone with her but forgot her son in laws phone #. She had a nurse phone her family for the number, and of course nurse got her the number, she dialed and went about her business....

Helen was predeceased by parents Steve in 1988 and Mary in 1986 her husband Alex, in 1998. Her sister Katie Struk in 1997 and a nephew Peter Struk  in  2013.

Also many brother and sister in laws passed away as well.

Helen is survived by her son, Carl & (Shirley) their children Darwin (Shelly) & her children, and Raymon, (Bobbie) and their children. Daughter Joanne & (Marvin) Nabozniak, then Terry (Donna) & his children Lindsay (Charles) Semchuk & girls, Aaron (Abbey) and Ryan (Jenna) and their children. Also son Barry his son Austin (Ashley).
