Obituary of Florence Matechuk

MATECHUK - Florence Matechuk (nee Boehm) was born March 23, 1937 to David and Molly Boehm (nee Frick) in Rhein Saskatchewan. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christ Lutheran Church Rhein, Sask. She attended public school in Rhein attaining her grade 10. She passed away July 17, 2024, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with her children by her side.

On October 15, 1955, Florence married Nick Matechuk making their home in Rhein. They were blessed with six children Nelson, Sherry, Neal, Kim, Shannon and Travis. In 1978 Nick and Florence separated with Florence making her home in Yorkton. She was still in her own home 140 Jubilee Cres., until the time of her passing.

Florence started her work career while living in Rhein. She had her own ceramic shop where she taught and sold ceramics for 15 yrs. She taught and did wedding and novelty cakes for 40 yrs. Once moving to Yorkton, she dove into Direct Sales selling Coppercraft, Michelle Lynn Jewellery, Hoda Home Décor, Bel Craft China and Princess House. She was very good at sales earning #1 salesperson in Canada with Coppercraft and earned trips to St. Martin, Munich Germany, 2 Caribbean Cruises, Hawaii, Jamaica, Paris France, Cartagena Columbia, Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Nova Scotia all with her fellow sales people. Her highlight was earning a Blue Fox Fur Coat from Michelle Lynn and meeting and receiving an award from the president of Coppercraft. While still in sales she also worked at the Legion, Frameworks and was a photo lab tech at Russell Studios.

Florence loved curling both playing and watching and was a fastball pitcher playing till age 59 and in her last years growing and taking care of her flowers where she achieved the Award for Best Sr. Resident Flowers in Bloom for 12 yrs. From 1999-2011.

Above all the things she did and accomplished the most important were being with family and friends especially seeing the grandchildren and the great grandchildren. Enjoying the good times of togetherness especially at Christmas and other special occasions. Brainic, Apple Pie, Buns, Cinnamon Buns and Butter Balls were her baking passions making sure we all had a share. She enjoyed going for coffee, shopping trips, lunches and suppers out with her friends and watching activities that the grandchildren were in.

A message to her family and friends: I love each and every one of you, you made my life full and rewarding. Remember me for the good times and laughter, don't be sad for I am at peace now.

Florence is predeceased by her parents Dave and Molly Boehm. Brothers Wilhelm, Rheinhold and wife Effie, Eddie and wife Lena. Sisters Irene and husband Albert Koch, Viola and husband John Stricker and Audrey Elchuk.

Florence is survived by her children: Nelson & Deb Matechuk (Rochester, Alta), Sherry & Len Magnusson (Canora, Sk.), Neal & Lana Matechuk (Yorkton, Sk.), Kim & Gerald Shymko (Calder, Sk.), Shannon & Lara Matechuk (Edgerton, Alta), & Travis Matechuk (Edmonton, Alta).

Grandchildren: Morgan Matechuk (Dave) Edmonton, Alta. Tyler Matechuk, Edmonton Alta, Deanna Magnusson (Ryan) Ft McMurray, Alta., Dustin & Lindsay Magnusson Yorkton, Sk., Kelsey & Brad Sherard Courtney, BC., Christie Matechuk (Chris) Regina, SK, Amber Matechuk Yorkton, Sk,. Nathan & Logan Matechuk Yorkton, Sk., Stacey Shymko Saskatoon, Sk. Warren & Morgan Shymko Yorkton, Sk., Kyra & Erika Matechuk Edgerton, Alta., Great Grandchildren: Jayden Nagy Ft. McMurray, Alta., Alexi, Skyler, Tyken Magnusson Yorkton, Sk., Braden, Landon, Kierra & Bentley Sherard Courtney, BC., Charlotte & Cohen Chepil Regina, Sk., Miller & Micah Shymko Yorkton, Sk.  Siblings Arnie Boehm, Sisters Shirley Gavlas (Bob) & Barbie McDougall (Jim), & Brother-in- law Barry Elchuk & many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service was held on July 25, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Kai Buck officiating and accompanist Verna Liebrecht. Kim Shymko shared a tribute and words of remembrance. The interment took place in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Rhein, SK with Sherry Magnusson & Kim Shymko serving as the Urn Bearers and Gwen Kada, Ruby Pedde, Betty Golling, Delores Haczkewicz, Muriel Froehlich and Liz Andrusiak acting as Honorary Urn Bearers. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund as gifts of remembrance.
