Obituary of John Egyed

The family of John Egyed of Melville, husband of the late Marie Egyed sadly announce his passing on Monday, September 2, 2024. John was 87 years of age.

A Public Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 1:00p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home, Melville.

John late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully September 2, 2024 at the age of 87. John was born March 13, 1937 in Kisvarda, Hungary. He then immigrated to Canada in 1956 at the age of 19, where he lived with family on a farm in Churchbridge, SK. John stayed on the farm until marriage to his loving wife Marie on July 18, 1964 than moved to their family home in Regina with 51 years of marriage.

John loved gardening the preparing, planting, watching it grow and reaping the rewards of fresh vegetables and fruits every year. He also enjoyed cooking traditional Hungarian food, watching his favorite football team the Saskatchewan Roughriders, NHL hockey, old spaghetti westerns and of course nature shows.

John had the kindest heart when it came to helping  family, friends and strangers. He had the gift to gab to anyone, especially about the old country and politics.

John worked very hard in the construction industry for 43 yrs as a operator engineer and laborer which he was proud to serve in both unions until he retired in 2008 at the age of 71.

In 2021 John moved to Melville where he met new friends and enjoyed new activities at Caleb retirement home, until a decline in health than moved to St. Paul Lutheran home where he spent his final days.

John had 4 children John, Jim (Jackie), Joe (Tammy) and Cheri. Also 10 grandchildren that he adored and was very proud of Amber (Troy), Jana  (Scott) Joshua  (Jayne), Destiny,  Tyler (Kaylee), Jesse, Vincent, Jojo, Levi (Kaytlynn) and Shamaeya, also 9 great grandchildren Nixon, Karver, Paisley, Emerson, Lola, Hunter, Jace, Zack  and Knox who gave John a great sense of family. John is predeceased by his wife Marie, son John and grandson Vincent.
