Obituary of Steve Slywka
The family of Steve Slywka, beloved husband of Florence, sadly announce his passing on Saturday, November 2, 2024. He was 97 years of age.
Prayers will be held on Tuesday, November 5th at 7:00pm from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Yorkton.
The Funeral will take place on Wednesday, November 6th at 10:00am also from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The interment will follow in the Garden of Crucifixion, Yorkton Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Yorkton and District Nursing Home or to Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church as gifts of remembrance.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.

Steve (Stephen) Slywka was born April 12, 1927 in the Runnymede district, a son of Alex and Anne (Nastor) Slywka, the third of seven children. He remained on the family farm until he was 18. Most of his life he worked in construction, first on his own then later joined by brother John which became Slywka Bros. Construction.
He spent two years building commercial buildings in Lynn Lake. In 1959 he worked for Logan Black Construction before joining Weber Construction where he remained employed for over 30 years. Steve retired at the age of 64. Soon after he took up golfing and became an avid golfer till the age of 92.
On May 23, 1970 he married Florence Perepeluk (nee Andrusiak). They resided in Yorkton along with her children Kerry and Mindy.
Steve was a quiet man but loved to socialize, dance, fish, curl, bowl, play cards, travel and play the slots. He never showed excitement even when he won several big jackpots!! He also enjoyed gardening, looking after his fruit trees and his cat. Steve was a very generous man, always helping family and friends. He never spoke unkind words. His faith and family were important to him.
Steve will be greatly missed by his wife Florence and their two children, Kerry (Liz) Perepeluk of Yorkton and Mindy (Ed) St. Denis of Regina. Five grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Newcombe of Regina, Dustin Perepeluk of Dunleath, Melanie (Andy) Bauche of Saskatoon, Garret Perepeluk (Autumn Voegtlin) of Tofield, AB, Leta (Logan) Coutts of Yorkton; six great grandchildren Peyton, Isabella and Sadie Newcombe of Regina, Scarlett and Wren Bauche of Saskatoon, and Thea Coutts of Yorkton. He is survived by his sister Nellie (Mike) Wolkowski of Regina, sister Vicky (John) Ostrowercha of Yorkton as well as nieces and nephews.
Steve was predeceased by his father Alex (1947), mother Anne (1986), his step-father Sam Ostrowercha (1985), sister Irene Muir (1953), brother Bill (1982), sister Mary (2018) her husband Jim Kurulok (1998), brother John (2021) his wife Leona Slywka (2017), step brother Mike (1993) his wife Olga Ostrowercha (2008), father-in-law Metro (1989) mother-in-law Katie Andrusiak (2006), sister-in-law Gloria (2011) her husband Dan Filipchuk (2018), nephew Marvin Kurulok (1975) and niece Janice Miller (2023).
