Obituary of Audrey Schattenkirk

Audrey Schattenkirk (Becker) passed away at age 84 on November 7, 2024 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

Audrey was born September 30, 1940 in Stornoway, Saskatchewan to Ernest and Violet Becker. Growing up on the family homestead she attended school in Stornoway, completing her grade 11 and 12 education at Luther College in Regina, Saskatchewan. Upon returning home after graduation she met her husband, Robert, and they were married October 15^th, 1960. They had three boys: Dean, Dale and Dana.

As their family grew, they built and moved into their Waterloo Road home in 1975, a comforting constant Audrey resided here the remainder of her life. A short year later Audrey began her impressive 29 year career at the Yorkton Dairy Queen, having roles in all aspects of operation as well as satisfying the sweet tooths of many Yorkton residents for decades. Retiring in 2005, Audrey and Robert were able to spend their time travelling and camping in their Boler trailer across western Canada, being there for all the important moments in their grandchildren’s lives. Audrey’s joy was her expansive garden; planted every single year, with 2024 being no exception. With an expert green thumb, you could find any sort of fruit or vegetable growing in the yard over the years – from PEI potatoes (complete with PEI soil), to envy of the neighborhood pumpkins, incredible grapes and always enough peas, carrots, and potatoes to last well through the winter. You could find Audrey – rain or shine – tending to the garden to ensure the best possible yield every fall.

Audrey was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Violet Becker, her husband Robert Schattenkirk, and siblings: Ronald, Elizabeth, Richard, Henry, Gladys, and Grant. She is survived by her son Dean (Teresa) granddaughters – Tishina (great grandson Frederik) and Elena, her son Dale (Fawn) grandson – Joshua and Zachary, her son Dana (Ronda) grandsons – Benjamin (Brett), and her brother Harold Becker.

The Memorial Service was held on November 12, 2024 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Doreen Day, Certified Celebrant officiating. The eulogy was given by Josh Schattenkirk.The interment followed in the Garden of Memories, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Audrey's grandchildren; Joshua, Tishina, Zachary, Benjamin and Elena serving as urn bearers.
