Obituary of Ralph Ruf
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Ruf on November 23, 2024, with his loving family at his side. He was 84 years of age.
Ralph was raised on a farm near Stornoway Saskatchewan with his parents Alex and Minnie Ruf along with four other siblings (Elmer, Iris, Marlene, and Larry).
Once he left the farm, he started work in Yorkton, at Morris Rod Weeder. He married Nadean (Liebrecht) in 1962 and they were blessed with three daughters.
Tammy, Tracey, and Sandra. He then started his 40+ year career with Atomic which later became TCT Logistics. Through his trucking career he became an owner/operator and ran two semis for some time (Double R Trucking). After retirement, he took on paper routes with The Leader Post and Yorkton This Week. He loved this little job and his customers loved him.
Ralph’s joys were his family camping trips which allowed his children and grandchildren to grow up at Good Spirit Lake. There were almost 40 years of these camping trips and they will be the fondest memories his family has. He also loved his Riders, never missing a game. In 2013 he even got to meet one of the Riders, Fullback Spencer Moore #80, who in 2019, became his grandson. What more could a Rider fan ask for? He also loved his Blue Jays and watching his favourite curler, JJ on tv.
Ralph was a fixer. It didn’t matter what needed it, he would figure it out and always had that “one thing he kept that he just might need some day” to complete the job.
In February 2024, Ralph was diagnosed with cancer, but he chose to live every day to the fullest. He planted a garden in the summer, rode his bike, and made many trips for appointments and treatments, and visiting his daughters.
On Monday, November 18, 2024 Ralph entered the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. However, the Lord called him home 5 days later.
Ralph is predeceased by his youngest daughter, Sandra Ruf, son in law, Scott Saylor, parents, Alex and Minnie Ruf, sisters, Iris McEwen, Marlene Popoff, brother-in-law, Joe Popoff and his brother Larry Ruf.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughters Tammy Saylor (Brad Schultz), Tracey Stauch (Bill), grandchildren Shelby Moore (Spencer), Stephen Stauch, Alyssa Stauch (Gavin Kingdon) and great granddaughter, Scottie Moore as well as his oldest brother, Elmer Ruf (Georgina) and many nieces and nephews.
Ralph’s view on life: “It’s 5 O’clock somewhere!”
A Memorial Service was held on December 2, 2024 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre, with Doreen Day Certified Celebrant officiating. Words of remembrance were given by Shelby Moore. Honorary urn bearers were Bill Stauch, Stephen Stauch, Gavin Kingdon, Brad Schultz, Elmer Ruf, Kerry Ruf, James Ritcher, and Spencer Moore. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Shelby Moore and Alyssa Stauch serving as urn bearers.
