It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David William Delainey on December 27th, 2024, at Yorkton Regional Hospital with family by his side.
David was born in Wilkie, SK on November 6th, 1938. David was the eldest born to Fredrick and Ann (Miller) Delainey. David grew up as a farm kid near Leipzig. When he was finished school at an early age, he worked for Scott Experimental Farm for a number of years. On September 2nd, 1963, David and Paulette Sittler married at Paschal Church in Leipzig. David and Paulette were blessed with five children: Natalie (1963), Calvin (1965), Charmaine (1968), Arlene (1969), and Duane (1972).
After they were married, David and Paulette moved to Regina, where he worked for Wapple Construction. In 1967, David started with UGG in Macklin, SK, where he worked for the next 28 years. David and Paulette moved around with his job with the UGG, becoming an intricate part of each community, including Handle, Stranraer, Fulda, Plunkett, Kenaston, and then in 1990 they moved to Davidson. Organizations dad was proud to be a part of include: Knights of Columbus, Plunkett volunteer fire-fighters, of which he was fire chief for many years, the Curling Club, and volunteering at various community functions. David and Paulette had many friends that they cherished in each of the towns they lived. In 1994, David had health problems and in early November, had open heart surgery and had to retire. Throughout his life, David was known for many accomplishments, such as being able to fix and build just about anything. Among the things he built were rocking horses for his grandchildren, a camper, numerous boats, and a train model set that was always a highlight of his grandchildren’s visit to their house. He loved the outdoors including gardening, fishing, camping, and golfing. Davidson was home to David and Paulette until Paulette took ill in December of 2022. During that time, David spent every day at her side in the ICU in Saskatoon. At the end of March 2023, they moved to Melville, to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. September 1st of 2023, David and Paulette celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their kids and grandchildren. They were very proud of the 60 years they spent together, and in that time, rarely spent a night apart. David spent his days taking care of his wife, until her passing on March 22, 2024.
