Obituary of Garth Sapara

Remembering Garth Sapara
1949-2025

We gather to remember and honor the life of Garth Sapara, a man whose impact was deeply felt by all who knew him. Garth was born on July 21, 1949, in Melville, Sask. to Wilbert and Mary Sapara. The oldest of six siblings, he grew up alongside Beryl, Frank, Merv, Michelle, and John. He attended school in Killaly and Melville, laying the groundwork for a life devoted to faith, family, and service.

In 1968, Garth met Elaine April through mutual friends, and their connection blossomed into a love that would span decades. They married on June 28, 1970, and together raised three children—Kim, Troy, and Lee—instilling in them the same values of faith, kindness, and community.

Garth’s love for life extended to many passions. He found joy in gardening, exploring the internet, and spending hours in his workshop fixing things. His hands were always busy, and his heart was always open to helping those around him. His involvement in his community was profound, especially in his role with St. Elizabeth’s Parish in Killaly, where he and Elaine were youth group leaders for many years, sharing his faith with the next generation. Their deep commitment to faith also led him and Elaine to Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Cowessess, where they remained active until the church’s tragic fire and closure.

Garth passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at Regina General Hospital on January 1, 2025, at the age of 75. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Elaine; his parents, Wilbert and Mary Sapara; his grandparents, John and Eva Sapara, and Matthias and Apolonia Zaleski; his niece, Elisha Weger; his parents-in-law, Jean Marc and Mathilda April; his brother-in-law, Raymond April; and his sister-in-law, Bernice April.

His legacy of love, faith, and service lives on through his family: his children Troy, Lee, and Kim (Glen); his grandchildren Paige (Riley), Breanne, and Brady (Brooklyn); his great-grandchildren Haydyn, Banks, and Hudson; his siblings Beryl, Frank, Merv, Michelle, and John.

In addition to his family, he shared a Special friendship with Lucille Dusyk and was grateful for the support and joy she brought into his life in recent years. Garth was blessed with many friends and relatives who held a special place in his heart.

As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the man he was: a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal friend, and a faithful servant to his community. Garth’s memory will forever be cherished, and he will always be lovingly remembered by those whose lives he enriched.
