Gregory David Schick, age 68, of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, passed away on January 2, 2025. He was born on April 29, 1956, in Melville, Saskatchewan, to David and Rose Schick. He was the eldest of 8 children.
Greg farmed with his family in the Atwater, Saskatchewan area and attended school in Fertile Belt, Glyndor, Atwater, and Esterhazy. He began working at Morris Industries in 1972 and moved to Yorkton the following year. He eventually began working with Bailey’s Funeral Home, which introduced him to the profession of funeral directing.
He first met his wife Myrna on June 2, 1972, marrying her on May 19, 1974. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past May. They have three daughters, Tanya, Keeley, and Larissa.
In 1990, Greg and his family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan. He became a licensed funeral director in 1993 and began working with Lee Funeral Home. He worked there for almost 14 years, holding the position of manager before accepting a new role with Christie's Funeral Home and returning to Yorkton in 2003. Greg remained a licensed funeral director, embalmer and key member of Christie’s until his passing.
He was an avid hunter, camper, and spent as much of his free time outdoors as possible (running, walking, cycling, swimming, or tinkering on a car or project). He enjoyed supporting and regularly participated in the 24 Hour Relay for Easter Seals while living in Regina. In the summer months, he took his family for day trips to beaches close to the cities they lived in. He loved to explore Canada's National and Provincial parks especially Good Spirit Lake, Madge Lake, and Moose Mountain. He always made time for travel as far west as Vancouver Island and as far east as Niagara Falls. Greg also visited the US over the years and travelled as far south as Orlando, Florida.
One of his favourite pastimes was hunting and he looked forward to hunting season every year. His passion for big game hunting grew over the years and he was thrilled when he was drawn locally for moose one season. He was an active member of Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and he enjoyed taking photos of different wildlife he observed while hunting. He had a strong love for animals and never hesitated to help stray animals in need (which is how at least a couple of kittens became family pets).
Greg was a loving husband, dad, father-in-law and grandpa. He truly enjoyed spending time with all three of his granddaughters. The adventures he created with them will last a lifetime.
Greg is survived by his wife, Myrna Schick (Kitsch), children, Tanya Jaques (Byron), Keeley Schick, Larissa Schick, grandchildren, Rachel Jaques, Ava Jaques, Nicole Jaques, mother, Rose Schick, his 7 siblings, their partners, and many nieces, nephews and their partners and children.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Schick and daughter, Tammie Schick.
