Obituary of Marcia Sylvia Laidlaw

The family of Marcia Laidlaw of Yorkton, beloved wife of the late Clarence Laidlaw sadly announce her passing on Monday, September 27 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. She was 81 years of age. Marcia Sylvia Laidlaw [Bilyk] was born August 19, 1940 in the Stornoway District, third child to Steve and Annie Bilyk [Mostoway]. Marcia received her education at Elite School and at the Yorkton Collegiate High School. Marcia was a very caring person who gave to others freely-often at great expense to herself. Her education was interrupted when her mother became ill and Marcia stayed at home to help care for her. Later she became employed at the Airport Hospital as a Care Aide and at the Yorkton Union Hospital. In later years she was employed at the Mental Health Unit until her retirement. On September 17th, 1960 she was united in marriage to Louis Maserek. They were blessed with one son, Marly to whom Marcia dedicated her life and her love. Marcia married Clarence Laidlaw on April 4th, 1981 and together they operated the Calder Hotel until retirement. Marcia became actively involved in community activities in Calder which included Fall suppers, Sports days, curling bonspiels, bingos, to name just a few. She especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings at Christmas and other special occasions as both she and Clarence loved to show off their cooking skills. Marcia loved to crochet which turned out bedspreads, afghans and wedding souvenirs for various family members and close friends. Following retirement from the Hotel business Marcia and Clarence retired to their farm south of Wroxton. Here they spent many happy hours working in their garden, farming, going for long leisurely drives in the country and playing Bingo. Following the death of Clarence, Marcia moved to Yorkton where she resided with her son Marly until failing health made it necessary to move to Gladstone Senior Residence and then to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home where she resided until her passing. Marcia is predeceased by her husband Clarence Laidlaw, her parents-Steve & Annie Bilyk, her sister Olga [Connie] Koroluk, brother Mervin Bilyk. She leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life her son Marly [Brandy], granddaughter Valliann Marcia Maserek of Yorkton, sister Susan [Norman] Babcooke of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, sister in law Gwen Bilyk of Yorkton as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marcia's family wish to extend a heartfelt thankyou to the caring staff of the nursing home for the excellent care given to Marcia during her stay there. We are especially grateful for the end of life care and compassion given to Marcia as well as to family members in her last hours. Service Details.
