Obituary of Ruth Marion McMillan

Ruth was born on May 29, 1925, in the Elfros District, to Earl and Martha (nee Storey) McMartin. She was raised on the family farm and attended a one room school till grade eight and then took grade nine by correspondence. She moved to Yorkton at the age of 17 and worked at Bowmen Bros. She met and married Gordon McMillan in 1946. They raised four children before moving to Regina in 1967. Ruth then upgraded her education and after several jobs clerking she got a job at the Dept. of Social Services which she enjoyed until her retirement in 1987. Ruth loved reading and travelling, as well as gardening with fruit trees and vegetables. She baked great scones and made delicious jams and jellies. Her biggest passion was quilting. She made 202 while her eyesight held up and every family member received one of her beautiful quilts as a keepsake. In 2015 Ruth sold her house and moved to the Bentley in Regina, but with failing health she was moved to Yorkton in 2018 and took up residence at the Yorkton Crossing until her passing. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Alexander Gordon (1999), son Gordon (1980), daughter Sheila Gudmundson (2018), parents Earl and Martha McMartin, brothers Donald and Grenville, and sisters Gwen Stittle and Doris Jacobsen. She is survived by her daughters, Sharlene Wasylenchuk (Merv), Yorkton and Marlene (Dan) Brown, Regina, her grandsons; Barry Wasylenchuk (Rashele), Danny Wasylenchuk (Sasha), Sheldon Wasylenchuk (Pattie), James Brown (Shannon), Steven Brown (Amy), Derek Gudmundson (Leah) and Sean Gudmundson, great grandchildren; Hayley Taylor, Keyan, Ethan and Nate Wasylenchuk, Alexis and Cooper Brown, Alexander, Aiden and Megan Gudmundson, her brother Ed (Karen) McMartin and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Doreen Day, Certified Celebrant officiating. The eulogy was given by Marlene Brown and Sharlene Wasylenchuk shared a poem. Musical selections shared were "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" by Susan Boyle. The honorary bearers were Cooper Brown, Barry Wasylenchuk, Keyan, Ethan & Nate Wasylenchuk. The interment followed in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Regina, Saskatchewan with Danny Wasylenchuk, Sheldon Wasylenchuk, James Brown, Derek Gudmundson, Steven Brown and Sean Gudmundson serving as casket bearers.
