In her final hours at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina we were by her side and played her beloved Kenny Chesney. Carla was born in Theodore, Saskatchewan on May 27, 1966, and grew up on the Thompson family farm south of Theodore. She loved farm life, especially the horses and all the other animals. She was always ready to help with daily duties on the farm. She was a member of the 4H Club as well as the Job's Daughters organization. She graduated from Theodore High School in 1984. Carla and Dick were married on August 22, 1986, and their son Dryw was born January 1, 1987, the New Year's baby in Yorkton. After Dryw was born, Carla went back to the University of Regina to complete her Social Work Degree in 1993. Soon after, Carla began her career in Social Work at Ministry of Corrections. Social Work and her passion for helping people became her lifelong career. She had a 27-year career as a Social Worker for the Government of Saskatchewan. She received her 25-year service award in August 2019, and on September 14, 2021, was the recipient of the Saskatchewan Protective Services medal, after being nominated by a colleague for this award. Life changed for Carla and Dick when their first grandchild Elly was born in June of 2017. They were overwhelmed with love for her. In March 2020, twins Nash and Emma were born and spoiling all 3 grandchildren became Carla's new passion. Carla liked to use her Grandma "veto card" when it came to spoiling Dryw's children. If Grandma said they could have more candy, that trumped Dad saying they had had enough. Grandma always knew best! In December 2018, Carla and Dick bought their dream house at Tiechko Beach. This was going to be their retirement home and they worked together to create a beautiful home and yard, making it a home. It was the "happy place" for the family and many memories were made in a short period of time. The grandkids loved to play on the beach with Grandma. Carla had a passion for running and eventually Dick began to run with her. Their daily evening walks and runs were their quality time together. Carla ran several marathons over the years in Yorkton, Regina and even Las Vegas. Her last marathon was in June 2019, shortly before she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was told she only had weeks to live, but because of her determination and will to live, she spent 2 more years with her family and precious grandchildren. On July 31 of this year, she reached her goal to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer by hosting a walk and raising $35,000. Carla was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her beautiful smile, unique personality, caring heart and strong, determined attitude touched many. She was predeceased by her grandparents Carl and Erna Dusty and Jim and Lucy Thompson; as well as her parent-in-laws Alfred and Katie Onslow. She is survived by her husband Dick, son Dryw and grandchildren Elly, Nash, and Emma; her parents, Norman and Jeanine Thompson, sister Connie Thompson, nieces and nephew, Cassidy, Landon and Shanel; as well as numerous family and friends.
