It is with great sadness that the family announces that our cherished Dad and Gido, John Dernisky, passed away just in time to spend his 97th birthday in heaven. John was born at the family homestead one mile south of Hyas, Saskatchewan. He was the seventh of nine children born to Paul and Josephine (Zawislak). The family worked hard to keep the farm running after the loss of Paul, when John was only five years old. As a young man, John met Cecelia and knew right away that he had found the love of his life. They were married November 3, 1946. John and Cecelia worked as a team running both family farm homesteads, keeping a plentiful garden and a beautiful home and yard. John was a man of few words and he was so appreciative of any small gesture from family or friends. He was so friendly and got along with everyone he met. He would be overjoyed when the family came home to visit or help with the spring or fall farming. It was the goodbyes that he struggled with because he had such a kind and caring bond with his family. He loved to discuss the weather, watch his favorite sports teams and handcraft special wooden gifts in his workshop. John was always up with the birds to start his daily chores, eagerly checking his garden and ready for church at the crack of dawn all dressed up in his best. In retirement, John and Cecelia took many special trips with each of their three children and enjoyed travelling to visit family every year. After seventy-two years on the family farm, John and Cecelia moved and made a new home in Yorkton where they resided until November 2019. Then they moved to The Yorkton Crossing where they enjoyed good company, many activities and delicious meals. John is survived by his wife, Cecelia, of seventy-four years; his three children: Brian (Lynda), Richard (Leslie), Sharon (Dan) Chomeczko; seven grandchildren: David (Stephanie), Kurtis (Liska), Alyssa (Sean), Kyle, Natasha (Brent), Danielle (Kyle), Amanda (Tylar); eleven great-grandchildren: Taylor, Tianna, Kendra, Cheyanne, Carson, Cambrie, Teagan, Dominick, Karol, Klara, Jayne; brother: Louie (Aurelia); sisters in laws: Anne and Jean; numerous relatives, great neighbours and friends.
