The family of Joseph Korney of Yorkton, formerly of the Endeavour district, beloved husband of Helen Korney sadly announce his passing on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was 93 years of age. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Korney on March 9, 2021, at the Theodore Health Center at the age of 93. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Helen (Czornobay) and his daughters Abigail (Alan)Holmberg, Karen (Rictor)Downs, Leslie (Terry) Smith, Cindy (Dwight)Greba and son Rodney. He will be missed by his grandchildren Douglas, Logan, Greg, Alvin, Ami, Stephan, Curtis, Parker, Joey, Lisa , Andrew, Kaylie, Tory , Carlin and their families. He is also survived by his brother Paul (Pauline), sisters Nora and Jeanette (Jack) and in-laws Jane Korney and Francis Buzash. Joseph was born January 7, 1928 on the family farm to Roman and Anne (Lutsick). He received his education at Lillian School. At the age of 16, he worked with his father and learned the blacksmith trade. He married Helen on October 25, 1952. In 1960, he bought his own business, a farm implement dealership and welding shop. He also worked 25 winters in the bush. In 1971, he became a millwright for the Simpson Timber Company in Hudson Bay, working there for almost 18 years until his retirement on June 30, 1988. He continued to operate a small welding and repair shop out of his garage up until the time they moved to Yorkton in 2015. He was a member of the Endeavour Ukrainian National Home, serving as its caretaker for many years and the Endeavour Lions Club. He helped build the first curling rink in Endeavour and was on the Village council from 1957 to 1964. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved elk hunting and hunted with many of his family members over the years. He and his wife were involved in the school dispute that helped save the Endeavour School and led to the construction of a new school. Joe was predeceased by his parent Roman and Anne, granddaughter Isis, his brothers William, Norman, Micheal, Andrew, Lawrence and sisters Pauline, Gladys, Veloy and Mary. Service Details.
