Obituary of Nettie Pryhitka
The family of Nettie Pryhitka, of the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre, and formerly of Hubbard, beloved wife of the late Steve Pryhitka, sadly announce her passing on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at the age of 85.
"Mother" was born on September 27, 1935 in the Homefield district to Steve and Anna Wuschenny. She was the sixth of 11 children. She was united in marriage to Steve Pryhitka on February 4, 1956, and the couple had five children. They resided on the farm outside of Hubbard where they farmed for many years, and eventually moved into Hubbard later on. Mother took care of various animals on the farm, including chickens, pigs, and cows. She always grew a huge garden and sometimes two in one year. Religion, attending church and her Ukrainian heritage were very important to her. One of Mother's greatest joys was seeing her children and grandchildren. She would have a grin from ear to ear whenever she seen them. Mother loved her family, including her brothers and sisters, and enjoyed talking on the phone with them on a weekly basis or sometimes daily basis. Mother will always be remembered for her gentle nature and kind way about her. She always listened to what you had to say but never complained about anything and never wanted you to worry about her. She was always pleasant and always had a smile on her face.
Mother was very strong willed and fought hard to the end. Nettie leaves to mourn her five children. Three sons, Landy of Melville, Dennis of Hubbard, Brian (Bernadette) of Saskatoon, two daughters, Christine (Graham) of Port Coquitlam, BC, and Marlene (Laurie) of Surrey, BC. Six grandchildren, Brandea and Brandon Chan, Anna and Jessie Richmond, Austin and Tyson Pryhitka. One sister, Emily, of Ontario. And numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Nettie was predeceased by her husband, Steve, her parents, Steve and Anna, her sisters, Rose and Marie, Olga and Katherine in infancy, and her brothers, Leslie, Bill, Andy, Nestor, and Mervin in infancy.
A family Funeral Liturgy was held on Friday, February 5, 2021 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ituna, Saskatchewan with Rev. Father Basil Malowany as the Celebrant. The cross bearer was Bernadette Pryhitka. The interment followed in the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Cemetery, Hubbard, Saskatchewan, with Landy Pryhitka, Dennis Pryhitka, Brian Pryhitka, Austin Pryhitka, Tyson Pryhitka and Graham Richmond serving as casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Nettie may be made to the Ituna Pioneer Health Centre (Box 130, Ituna, SK S0A 1N0) or to St. Peter's Hospital (Box 1810, Melville,SK S0A 2P0) as gifts of remembrance.
