Obituary of Sophie Grebinski

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sophie Grebinski on December 28th 2020, at the age of 92. Sophie was born on December 24th 1928 in the Beckenham district to Walter and Julia Chickowski. Sophie married Peter Grebinski on October 27th 1952 and over the years they farmed in the Horse Lake district, then moved to Regina and later built their home and settled in Ituna. Here she worked at various places, with Sametz Pharmacy being her most recent employer before her retirement. Sophie loved life to the fullest! She had an awesome story telling ability and a terrific sense of humor. She loved entertaining with her witty personality, telling jokes and stories or secretly playing pranks. Sophie applied countless hours of her entrepreneurial spirit into quilting, crocheting, knitting, braiding rugs and sewing. She had a gift for growing and nurturing the most beautiful flower and vegetable garden, trying different recipes and making all types of preserves. She loved a good game of three-spot with family, friends or anyone who would be willing to challenge her. Of all her multitude of interests and passions, her greatest love was for her family! Family was always very important to Sophie, she kept in close contact with her brothers, sister, and most of her nieces and nephews, sometimes chatting with them for hours on the phone. She always made everyone feel loved and cared for with food and great hospitality. Very seldom would you leave her home without a coffee, a fresh piece of pie or a full meal along with a care package of one of her homemade creations. Bingo was also one of her passions, she would travel with friends long distances for an afternoon or evening out and was fortunate to win some hefty jackpots! Nothing slowed her down, even into her 90's she continued to do the same things she had always done because 'this might be my last time'. After Peter's passing in March of 2020, Sophie was determined to live in her own home until fall and move into Independent Living. However, due to her failing health and increased need for care, the Ituna Pioneer Lodge became her new home in mid-August. Even though this was a traumatic change for her, she never complained and always said how well she was cared for at the Lodge. Sophie was predeceased by her loving husband Peter on March 29th 2020, after an incredible 68 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents Walter & Julia Chickowski; a sister, Anne; brothers, Nick and Peter; sister-in-law, Merdell; brothers-in-law, Albert Zakreski, Frank, Stanley, John, Mike and Bill Grebinski; sisters-in-law, Mary Bulych, Angela Kolybaba, Sophie Butchko and Victoria Mazden. She is survived by her sister, Mary Zakreski; and by a brother, Mike Chickowski; sisters-in-law, Grace Chickowski, Doreen Chickowski and Ann Koback; brother-in-law Leonard Grebinski, and many nieces and nephews.
