Obituary of Leona Mary Dean
Leona Dean passed away peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the age of 84 years.
Leona, one of seven children, was born to George and Mary Ottenbreit on Dec 12th, 1936 in Grayson. She married Norman Dean on July 9, 1958. The couple lived on the original Dian homestead until 2014 when they moved to Caleb Village in Melville. Leona knew at an early age she was going to be a school teacher and was for 35 years.
Leona cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with everyone at the many get togethers including family, sister, and cousin reunions. Norman and Leona were frequently the gracious hosts for many of these events.
Over the years Leona and Norman enjoyed a trip to Hawaii with Fred and Lily Bogdan, fishing time with John and Elsie Dean at Long Lake, annual summer trips to Dennis and Doreen Wilson in Flin Flon, and many nights playing cards with friends. Leona and Norman both shared the joy of gardening and maintaining their beautiful yard.
Leona loved to read, Anne of Green Gables was a favorite. A travel highlight with Steven was a trip to PEI visiting many lighthouses, seeing a play in Charlottetown, and visiting Green Gables Heritage Place. Leona was also an amazing cook and baker as her children and grandchildren would agree.
Leona was a loving grandmother and adored each of her seven grandchildren, and was pleasantly surprised by the later additions of Ellie, Sydney and Emma.
Leona leaves to cherish her memory her three sons; son Vaughn (Hollie) of Edmonton and children, Ellie and Emma; son, Steven of Calgary and his children, Easton, Nolan, and Sydney; son, Cory (Pamela) of Calgary and children, Luke and Megan.
She was predeceased by her husband Norman Dean, parents George and Mary Ottenbreit; parent-in-law Ferdinand and Gertrude Dian.
