Gerald Ramstead was born on August 1, 1940 on the family farm in the Dubuc district of Saskatchewan to Joseph & Mary (nee Johnson) Ramstead.
Gerald attended Round Lake School up to grade 6 then helped his parents on the family farm. In 1961 he moved to Yorkton. Gerald met his soulmate Barbara Leson in May of 1966. Gerald and Barbara were united in marriage on October 7, 1970 at Westview United Church in Yorkton. They were blessed with 3 children; Leonard, Linda and Lana.
Gerald was employed for many years at the Coop Creamery. He later worked at various jobs, janitorial, security, roofing, painting and a farm hand.
Gerald spent many hours camping and fishing with his family and in later years just with Barbara. Summer vacations were a usual yearly trip to the Rocky Mountains. He enjoyed hunting with his cousins Ellis and Ranold. Gerald also loved all kind of sports, watching them on TV as well as sitcoms and movies.
Gerald's health started declining over the years. In May of 2016 he suffered a heart attack followed by a serious fall in October 2017 which led to several surgeries and eventually to long term care at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville to be closer to his daughters. His health declined significantly this fall which led to his sudden passing on December 19, 2020. His family was fortunate enough to be allowed compassionate care visits and spent several hours at his bedside.
