Obituary of Helen Margaret Beer

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Margaret Beer on August 27, 2020 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. Helen was the youngest child born to John and Rose Derkach on June18, 1946. She delighted in telling us that she was like the second son (next to her brother Bill) enjoying and participating in the outdoor tasks of farm life a view she held to the end of her days. Helen began her schooling at the Spondon School. With the help of her sisters Olga and Tessie she mastered the famous "Dick and Jane "readers and the alphabet and was ahead of the game from day one. She had fond memories of this country school which laid the foundation of her education. When she hit grade nine it was off to Ituna for her high school. It was there as she put it "I met the fellow who would be my #I man, Lionel Beer". So began the courtship which lasted till today. This year marked 52 years on July 13th with that same man. Upon her graduation she moved to Regina where she completed training for her goal of becoming a teacher extraordinaire. She brought to her job that special effort and energy that she put into all her goals. This one was filled with sympathy and dedication for every student who crossed her path. Her career took her to Balcarres, Ituna, Hubbard and back to Ituna. On February 25th, 1977 she added another career to her resume. First wife, teacher and now mother to the apple of her eye their son Ryan. She considered this their greatest achievement. Her teaching career would span 32 years of dedicated service. Upon retiring she moved right back into farm life without missing a beat. Her joy was doubled when Ryan met and married Melanie Wessing of Kelliher. Their union was blessed with three of the greatest grandchildren a couple could have Kaydince, Reese and Ryder. Helen visited and participated in as many school and sports events she could get to just to see these special gifts in action. She will be there in spirit to walk with and guide them as they make their way through life. Her greatest wish was to see them grow up and prosper. Helen never had a dull moment. She participated with great dedication in the Hubbard Ladies Community Club, the Hubbard Recreation Board, the St. Stanislaus church activities and then to make life more exciting she added a position at the St. Anne's Care Home to her resume. While employed there she would run the resident bingos, find time to take home some mending, fix a zipper or add a button on to a resident's shirt just because nobody from the family was there to do it. One day while shopping she pulled out a cutout of a man's foot because she was buying a pair of shoes for a resident who did not have family to do it. What a woman! Then she needed some real exercise so she would whip that softball around the ball diamond fast enough to make your head spin as she helped the ball team win it's game. She met winter with a curling broom in her hand and readily swept that rock into position. She never said "no" to a challenge. She was one of a kind and when others were too busy you just went to Helen and she found the time to do it for you. She always met the challenge. Helen was predeceased by her parents John and Rose Derkach; in-laws Walter and Julia Beer; her brother Bill; sister Olga and brother-in-law Walter and brothers-in-law John Quichuk and Nick Slywka along with other family members. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Lionel; her son Ryan, wife Melanie and her precious grandkids Kaydince, Reese and Ryder of Ft. Saskatchewan, AB; her sister Steffie of Regina; sister Tessie (Joe Achtemichuk) of Portage La Prairie, MB; sisters-in-law Sonia Derkach of Yorkton, Frances Quichuk and Gladys Wawruck (Terry) of Regina as well as numerous nieces, nephews relatives and friends she has left behind. We wish to acknowledge the kindness and compassion of Sandy and Shelly as they visited and assisted mom in her time of need. Thankyou. We also acknowledge all family and friends near and dear to Helen's heart who grieve with us at this time. Service Details.
