Obituary of Roman Lozinski

LOZINSKI - With heavy hearts, the family of Roman Lozinski announce his peaceful passing on August 12th, 2020. He was 81 years of age. Roman L. Lozinski was born on April 23, 1939, to Leo and Rose Lozinski (née Korchinski). He was the youngest of four children, welcomed into the family by sisters Olivia and Evelyn and brother Julian. Roman attended File Hills School for his first years and completed his high school education at Ituna High. He went on to attend the University of Saskatchewan. He worked in both Regina and Saskatoon. Roman met his future wife Delores Matysio at Rose Garden Hall in Ituna. They were united in marriage on October 6th, 1962, in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Ituna. They lived in Saskatoon until 1966 when they moved home to Ituna to farm full-time with his dad on the family farm. Roman semi-retired from farming in 2006 but continued to be the 'hired help' for his sons. Roman and Delores were blessed with four children, Wendy in 1964, Jeff in 1967, Reid in 1969 and Raquel in 1970. They made their family home in Ituna as his parents lived on the farm eight miles south. Being a farmer could mean many, many hours away from home and sometimes not seeing his family for days on end. Roman decided he would shut everything down on the farm and drive into Ituna for lunch from Monday to Friday. During the busy times of spring seeding and harvest, Delores would cook up lunch and supper and then, like numerous other farming families, we would all eat in the field; those lunches and suppers gave his family some of their best memories. Roman's passion was music and he was a self-taught guitar player. He played in a band with his good buddies Donnie, Albin and Zane and they, along with their families, remained friends long after their band broke up. Many nights in the '70s and '80s were spent in the family home with these four musicians, rekindling the 'magic'. Their kids were included and everyone sang along. Roman shared his passion for music when he and his brother-in-law Edgar, with the blessing of Bishop Peter Stasiuk, started a folk singing group in the Ukrainian Catholic Church. It was one of the first folk groups in the area and was an opportunity for many young people to be involved in the church. Roman believed in community involvement. He served as a trustee on the local school board while his children were of school age, a member of the Recreation Board, a member of the Ituna Co-op and a member of the Ituna Golf Club. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Roman had a strong work ethic which he passed on to all four children. While growing up Reid and Jeff worked endless hours on the farm and continued to do so long after they left home. Wendy and Raquel pitched in when necessary, whether it be picking roots and stones, cutting grass on the farmyard and around bins or simply being an extra set of hands for a project. These values have been passed to the next generation. Roman was predeceased by his parents Leo and Rose, his brother Julian, his sister Evelyn and his in-laws Ladmer and Annie Matysio. He will forever be remembered and loved by his beloved wife of 57 years, Delores; his daughter Wendy (Zennon Slowski) and their children Nicholas and Zachary; his son Jeff; his son Reid (Camille Braden) and their daughter Tristen; and daughter Raquel (Richard Spilchuk) and their children, Chelsea, Katelyn and Matthew. He is survived by his sister Olivia; nephew Rick (Fay) Braden and family; brothers-in-law Edgar (Cecile) Matysio and family, Irvin Matysio, and Arnold (Celina) Braden and family. He will be missed by his family and friends, especially his 'coffee buddies' and his 'brother from another mother' Donnie. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at the All Nations' Healing Hospital for their loving and compassionate care during the past two weeks. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, August 15th, 2020 from the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna with Fr. Basil Malowany officiating. The responses were led by Heidi Spilchuk, Wayne Boczulak and Ladmer Moskal. The Epistle reader was Richard Spilchuk, the Crossbearer was Matthew Spilchuk. Tributes were given by family members and his close friend Don. The interment took place in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Jerry Harrick, Terry Korchinski, Glen Leontowich, Jim Meikle, Ladmer Moskal and Don Nakonechny. serving as the casketbearers.
