Obituary of John Zatwarnitski

John Zatwarnitski of Calgary, formerly of Ituna, beloved son of Adela and the late John Zatwarnitski passed away peacefully at the age of 65 years in the Foot Hills Hospital in Calgary, AB. John was born in 1955 in Yorkton, SK. He attended the Ituna Elementary and High School, graduating in 1973. He was active in school athletic activities such as fastball, hockey, curling and golfing. He was a skip on the school curling team which represented the school in various district bonspiels. As an adult the game of golf was his passion and he was quite good at it. He also participated in other extra curricular activities, such as an alter server in his church and a member of the UCY Club. After completing high school, John moved to Winnipeg, MB where he received his first year of Psychology at the University of Manitoba and took the Management/Supervisor Course at Red River College in Winnipeg, MB. He then moved to Regina, SK to pursue a career in selling real estate. He completed a year in both "Principals of Economics" and "Real Estate Appraising in Canada" at the University of Regina, as well as completing a Real Estate 100, 200 and Brokers course. He spent his first two years in residential and commercial real estate sales. He specialized in Hotel Marketing for seven years which included selling of properties throughout Canada, consulting, financial analysis, syndication's, appraisal and dealing with domestic, foreign and private lenders. He placed first in Real Estate being awarded Top Salesman. After thirteen years in Regina John transferred to Calgary where he made his home. He placed Top Salesman three times while working in Calgary and was one of the top two margin producers. He sat on the committee responsible for the computerization Shane Homes company. John had an extensive knowledge in new home sales & construction, extensive knowledge of new home construction pricing, strong organizational skills, negotiating, leadership, analytical expertise, creativeness, extensive hands on computer experience, strong interpersonal and communications skills. He was a very generous person and was always prepared to help in any way he could. He supported his brother Allan with two years of University. He liked to cook and was an expert in barbecuing a steak for family and friends. He was reliable, honest, hardworking, a self-starter and self-motivating, enjoyed people, ethical. Perseverant, hands on attitude, loyal, superior performance and had common sense. John was a very loving father to his son Austin. He was always there for him and supported him. He was a loving son to his mom and dad, always helping and providing for them when he was able. John is predeceased by his father John, brother Allan, his grandparents John and Mary Kerunski and Fred and Rose Zatwarnitski, his aunts and uncles Dr. William and Emily Kozekewich, William Zatwarnitski, Bernice Zatwarnitski, Ann Thompson and his cousin Curtis Kozekewich. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Adela, son Austin, numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Father Basil Malowany as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ladmer Moskal, Heidi Spilchuk and Wayne Boczulak. The cross bearer was Shannon Schwartz and the epistle reader was Stacey Hnatiuk. The interment followed in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Darcy Borys, Darren Zatwarnitski, Wayne Dorosh, Geoff Shurrock, Stacey Hnatiuk and Gerald Muzyka serving as the casket bearers. Tributes were presented by Geoff Shurrock, Stacey Hnatiuk, Darcy Borys and Austin Zatwarnitski. Memorials can be made to Sacred Heart Cemetery Perpetual Fund or to Mass Offerings.
