Obituary of Delphine Mabel Reid

The family of Delphine Reid of Melville, widow of Allan Reid, sadly announce her passing on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the age of 89 years. Due to current public health restrictions a Private Family Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, June 24 at 10:00am with Father Andrew Sowa officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Home (Box 1390, 100 Heritage Drive, Melville, SK S0A 2P0) as gifts of remembrance. Delphine was born on the family farm at Oakhill to Paul and Gertrude Maccan. She was raised with her siblings Eunice, Patrick, Ivy and Loretta. On February 18, 1952 she married Allan Reid and they created a homestead on NE 23 23 6 W2, where they raised six children. Delphine worked very hard on the farm, raising chickens, pigs and cattle, also having a very large garden. This lead too many days of butchering, freezing and canning. This was all done so her family could have plenty of food for the long cold winters. Delphine would also sell cream at the local creamery. They were extremely self sufficient and required very little groceries from town. Lots of hard work, until Sunday came. First Church then playing ball at Banner Hall Picnics as well as other small communities. Delphine was a very good 3rd baseman, wearing her famous #9, playing for the Co-op Ladies. Coincidently her first room at the home was #9. Allan and Delphine enjoyed Dances at Banner Hall and socializing with the neighbors. Allan passed away on February 22, 1982. Several years later Delphine moved into Melville to the house were Grandma and Grandpa had retired. Delphine could walk to church, grocery store and Danellos to get her hair done. She was a volunteer with the Rosary Sodality for many years. She enjoyed curling with the Seniors Curling Club as well as bowling. Later on she purchased a keyboard and took music lessons. Granny moved into St. Paul's Lutheran Home in 2014. She enjoyed the activities and the music. The staff enjoyed Granny and she was very well taken care of. As her dementia began to set in she would often reminisce about fishing and picking berries. Granny is survived by her Son-in-law Garry, children, Derek (Shana) Lexi , Slade, Chris (Tricia)Hunter, Brody Daughter-in-law Kathy (Randy) Children Leann (Clint) Layla, Aaron (Chloe) Ania, Sohpia, Olivia, Owen, Son Ken (Pat) Children Josh, Shane (Dani) Everly, Cole (Lynn), Son Keith, Children Jennifer (Doug) Kayden, Nathan (Stacey), Logan, Grandchildren Brayden and Michaela, Son Grant (Jo-Anne) children Levi (Jessica) Jesse (Robyn), Delphine is predeceased by her husband Allan, Children, Gwynn, Tom and Lloyd and Daughter-in-law Cynde.
