Obituary of Grant Milton Garry

Grant was born on August 2, 1953 to Lloyd and Edith Garry. Over the years Grant had been employed at Leons, Morris and Carpetland. Known as a perfectionist when it came to his skill at laying flooring he was always in high demand. He was very involved with the Willowbrook Wildlife Federation serving both as an executive and general member role. His love of nature was reflected in his expertise as a hunter, fisherman and guide; sharing his knowledge with patience, good jokes, lots of laughs and a cold beverage He always welcomed friends and family alike to his cabin up north to share stories, quad trails and make memories. Grant was the master of creative nicknames and just about everyone he knew had one. Grant was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Edith Garry and his first wife, Debbie. He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life his son Cory (Michelle) and daughter Lindsay (Darryl), their mother Laurie, and his greatest treasures, his precious grandchildren Madison, Emma, Kalem and Kaige - the absolute highlights of his life. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister Sandy (Steve), brother Glen (Margaret), and nephews Kevin, Shaun, Michael, and niece, Jean. Grant will be greatly missed by all who had the honour of knowing him. Today we are here to remember someone very special in our lives - someone who wore many coats in a lifetime cut far too short. He was a loving father, a caring confidant, a loyal friend, and an avid sportsman among others, but the coat he wore the proudest was that of Papa. Spending time with his grandkids -- little "minling", his little "fisher girl", quadding, hunting or fishing in the pontoon boat with them and his kids made any day a good day. Summers spent at the cabin, first with his kids, then as time went by with the grandkids too, became the place where good things happened. Birthdays were celebrated! Everyone was fair game for his teasing. Friends were always welcome to join the mix (and bring some!) be it for a quick weekend trip up North, a week-long hunting or somewhere in between. In his spare time he was forever organizing his hunting room and fish hooks - he had a collection like none other. "Big Daddy" or "Wolf" to some, always had his trusty sidekick, his cellphone, by his side with its "quack quack" ring tone keeping him connected to family and friends who were always so important to him. Always worried about everyone else before himself, he would do everything to help anyone out however he could; never complaining, ready to give the shirt off his back if that's what was needed, never asking or expecting anything in return - it's just what you did. Remember - the twinkle his grandkids put in his eyes will always be there - just look up at the night sky. See those twinkling stars looking down over the outdoors he loved? That's Papa, that's Dad, that's Gumpa looking down at us and smiling because he knows he got the best seat in the house. "Shockey" "The Guide" we salute you! Service Details.
