Auntie Irma always met me with warmth, a smile and a hug when ever we ventured into Yorkton. Next came the question - "What can I offer you?" Even after she moved into the nursing home, the offers and smiles continued. I recall the pleasure she felt as she showed me the art work she gathered or shared her homemade poppycock or a glass of her favourite beverage. She took great pride in the things she held most dear - like her friends, family and church. Somehow, even a simple lunch became a great adventure that she had to share. Her memory will always remain special and one that I recall fondly. I miss her already.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of a truly Grand Lady. Through the collegiality of Beta Sigma Phi, which Irma and my mom both belonged to, Irma took a 20 year old stranger into her home for the summer and so began a close friendship enduring more than 30 years. Irma was the consumate dinner host able to turn even every day dinner into an elegant occasion with candlelight, cloth napkins, and flowers fresh from her beloved garden. I never knew that beet roots could be such elegant fare. My thoughts are with Bailey, Wayne, and Irma's extended family. She will be dearly missed but her memory will live on in the many things she inspired. Tammy Coates
