Elizabeth Helen Ellaschuk was born April 4, 1936 on the family farm near Wroxton Saskatchewan, to Nickolas George and Helen (nee Wintonyk) Ellaschuk. She passed away on October 5, 2019 in LaSalle Quebec at the age of 83. Elizabeth (Betty) was predeceased by brothers Peter Ellaschuk and infant Marislow Ellaschuk. Elizabeth was baptized on October 5, 1936 according to the rites of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church by Reverend P. Melynchuk. Rosie Sarafincian was Betty's Godmother, and Adam Kurak was her Godfather.
Betty attended Chaucer school, and she was always at the top of her class. Betty was fun loving, outgoing and enthusiastic. She excelled at track and field and softball, and she enjoyed acting, playing the mandolin and singing. Betty loved playing outdoors with her siblings and cousins, and although she was the youngest in her family, she would inevitably outsmart the others at their games. Her cousins faithfully saved crossword puzzles for Betty and she relished the challenge each week. Betty enjoyed all animals and wildlife, and as a girl she took special pride in her snow white kittens. Betty often went on special outings to the Assiniboine River Valley accompanied by her sisters, cousins and Godmother Rosie, where they would pick berries, explore the landscape and have wiener roasts.
After graduation, Betty moved to Regina to earn her Registered Nursing Degree from the Regina General Hospital. She worked in Saskatoon as an RN before moving to Montreal, where she settled for the rest of her life. Elizabeth worked in various areas of nursing, including home care with the non - profit organization Victorian Order of Nurses. Betty dedicated her life to the care and well being of others; she did not have any children. She lived and worked in the heart of Montreal, within walking distance to Montreal General Hospital, McGill University, Mount Royal Park, Galleries and Museums. Betty appreciated fashion and culture and she, along with her common law husband enjoyed frequent vacations to Maine and Vermont.
Elizabeth leaves to mourn her passing, two sisters: Victoria Maguire and her husband Douglas of Regina, SK and Pauline Page, and Jack Page of Edmonton, AB. She is survived by nieces and nephews Carol Maguire - Morris, Marilyn Maguire, Paul and Heather Maguire, Michael Maguire and Melissa Just, Joanne Page - Shaban and David Page.
