Obituary of Alvin Makuch

Alvin Makuch, beloved husband of Doreen of Benito, passed away on Thursday, October 3rd 2019 at the Kamsack & District Hospital. He was 70 years of age. Alvin Makuch was born on May 5, 1949 at Benito, Manitoba; a son of Mike and Anne (nee Samchuk) Makuch. Alvin was raised on the family farm, which bordered on Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He received his education at the Kobzar School. As a young man Alvin worked for a time for the Duck Mountain Provincial Park before venturing west to Edmonton, where he worked for a brief time. He eventually returned home to the family farm. On August 16, 1975 he was united in marriage to Doreen Balysky at Arran, Saskatchewan. The couple first lived just north of Benito, where Alvin worked for a farmer in the cattle business. He eventually took over the family farm from Mike and Anne when they moved into Benito in 1985. From that time Alvin and Doreen expanded the farm and operated a successful cattle operation. The couple also raised horses as well. About three years ago, through a combination of health issues and timing, Alvin and Doreen sold the land off but maintained a few acres and their home. Alvin was predeceased by his parents Mike and Anne, and by his brother Larry. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Doreen; his sister Elaine (Garry) Walberg of Qualicum Beach, BC; niece Laura (Alain) Gilbert and daughter Gabrielle of Naniamo, BC; niece Leah (Brady) Walberg-Folk and children Bowen & Raine of Parksville, BC. Also Alvin's sister-in-law Marlene (Ray) Kostiuk of Benito; niece Twila Makuch of Dauphin and her son Keegan. The cremation committal service was held on Thursday, October 10th 2019 at the Benito Cemetery, followed by a memorial luncheon at the Benito Recreation Centre.
