Obituary of Alexander "Alex" Vewcharuk

VEWCHARUK, Alexander "Alex" unexpectantly passed away, peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the age of seventy eight years and seven months. Alex was born on November 27, 1940 in Inglis, MB to parents William and Francis (nee Sawaryn) Vewcharuk. He was raised on the farm and went to school in Russell, MB. Alex married Julie Schalla on February 13, 1968. They had three children; Loretta, Tyson and Marcia. He was a construction worker, jackhammer operator, truck driver, taxi driver, security guard, hobbyist, and a carpenter/handyman. Despite health challenges, Alex was always willing to give a helping hand within the community, recycling, playing pool/billiards, gambling, playing cards games and checkers, watching sports games, fishing, gardening, playing bingo, listening or singing country music, watching war movies and joking with family and friends. Alex was a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, uncle, nephew and friend. He is predeceased by his wife Julie; his granddaughter Twyla May Dyck; his parents William and Francis Vewcharuk; his brothers James, Samuel, and John; and his sisters Annie, Lena and Margret (Elsie). He will be lovingly remembered by his three children; Loretta (John) Dyck, Tyson Vewcharuk and Marcia Vewcharuk; grandchildren Robin, Kathryn, Andrew and Philip Dyck; sisters Jean, Mary and Katie as well as many nieces and nephews and their families and many friends. Alex resided in Kamsack long term care since March 18, 2019 due to deteriorating health. He will no longer be suffering or in pain here on earth. In our memories and heart may he rest in peace! The funeral service was held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Brian Kirsch of Heritage Baptist Church officiating. The pianist was Amanda Buhler and she led the singing of ‘Onward Christian People', ‘Old Rugged Cross' and ‘Amazing Grace'. A poem of tribute was read by Loretta Dyck and the Urnbearer was John Dyck. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories, Yorkton Memorial Gardens. In memory of Alex memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan as gifts of remembrance. Online condolences may be left at baileysfuneralhome.com Service Details.
