He taught in a number of schools and ended up in Plenty, Saskatchewan in 1965, teaching there until he retired as a principal in 1986. He always made time to tutor or mentor anyone that needed it. He moved back to Ituna in 2010 and to the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Center in December 2014. He would return to Ituna every summer when school was out and loved to drive through the back roads and his old homestead, telling stories about the past. He loved country western music especially Georgie Jones and was also a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. He was always taking care of cats, even at the Pioneer Health Care Center. He was predeceased by his parents William Smysniuk and Parania Arabsky, along with brothers Harry (who died shortly after birth), John, Mike, Russell, Dan, sister Helen and sister-in-law Ann.
