Obituary of Allan Pearson

Mr. Allan Pearson, age ninety, of St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, SK passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16 at 10:00am from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville. Remembering Allan Walter Pearson On an autumn day, on October 29, 1928, Allan Pearson was born on the family farm North-East 26 Township 24 Range 7 West of the 2nd (Melville District). His family was comprised of grandparents Antal and Elizabeth Hungrader, parents Polus and Mary Pearson, elder brothers Anton (Tony) and Alfred. Allan grew up in those difficult years known as the Dirty Thirties. History tells us there was a 10 year drought, where times for farmers were really unimaginably tough. Allan went to the nearby Happy Centre School and finished his Grade 10 there. During his school years, he loved to play baseball and horseshoes. After his happy school years, life in earnest started, as he worked on the farm, and became a true Prairie Man. How Allan loved the farm life - he was a man of routine, following the seasons of calving, fencing, seeding and harvest. Going to town on Friday, getting supplies and mail was just what he did, as had been the family tradition since he was a kid. He loved and cared for his animals - his cows, horses, and above all his German Shepherd dog, which was always at his side. In his younger years, Allan loved to hunt and was a really good shot. At the Happy Centre annual picnic you could see him sporting his talent with horseshoes. Where others could maybe get one ringer in the game, he seemed to be able to throw a ringer whenever he wanted. Allan also loved watching baseball and hockey games. His one big thing was playing cards, where he was a champion at King Pedro, and he knew how to win! Those who played with him, knew of his wit and he won more games than he ever lost! Over the years, his brothers left the farm, and in 1967 his grandparents passed away leaving Allan to farm with his parents Polus and Mary. Both of his parents passed away in 1981 and 1989 respectively leaving him alone. Left alone to farm, he faced some very difficult and challenging years, coupled with failing health. A horse had kicked him, leaving him with chronic pain and a permanent limp. Inevitably, the most painful day of his life came, when he could no longer be at home on the farm and he found himself at St.Paul's Nursing Home. He didn't want to be there, but had no choice. Allan was a bachelor, an unclaimed diamond in the rough. Many didn't see the qualities that he had, that those who knew him better did see. Even when life was tough with huge challenges to deal with, he never complained. He kept these things to himself. Allan was able to process and accept the loss of his earlier life on the farm and St.Paul's Nursing Home did become his new home. He had friends that he knew in the home and his social life blossomed like never before. Many nurses told us that "he was just such a wonderful man to work with and how he will be missed." "Allan was always a gentleman and never caused them any grief." The nursing staff loved him with his happy demeanor and his charming smile. Several nurses came to say their goodbyes and pay their respects as his passing became immanent. Although many family relatives lived outside of Saskatchewan, Allan had a loving family in St.Paul's Nursing Home. Allan entered his eternal rest peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Aside from his parents, Allan was predeceased by his brother Alfred Pearson in 1999. Allan passed away leaving a big hole in the hearts of the family. He is survived by his brother Tony Pearson, and six nephews: Bill, (Alexis); David, (Cheryl); John, (Margit); Dale, (Pat); Robert (Diane) and Stuart. Service Details.
