Obituary of Mary Elash

Mary Elash, daughter of the late Fred and Mary (nee Krewda) Lutz entered into eternal rest on Sunday February 17, 2019 at the age of 92 years. Mary was born in the Goodeve district of Saskatchewan on September 2, 1926. She was raised on the family farm and attended Crescent Bluff School. In 1948 she married Nick and moved to the Elash farm, raising cattle, poultry and growing grain and vegetables for market. Mary was compassionate, kind and caring, devoted to God and her family. She especially enjoyed visits from her family. She read the Bible daily and attended church faithfully. Mary was treasurer for 7 years for the Holy Trinity Ladies Club. Nick and Mary travelled to Rome and the Holy Lands bringing to life their bible readings. She was an avid gardener, an amazing cook and the best bread maker. Mary taught herself to sew and crochet, even attempting upholstery. She moved to St. Volodymyr's Villa in Saskatoon for a few years but decided to return to the farm where she spent almost 50 years married to Nick. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Nick; brothers John, Matt (Metro), Alex, Nick and Steve; sisters Anne Sereda, Rose Swidinsky; sister-in-law Evelyn Lutz; brothers-in-law Peter Sereda and John Swidinsky. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: son Donald (Judy) Elash; grandchildren Tom (Brenda) Elash, Ted (Kayla) Elash, Natalie (Chad) Johnson; daughter Shirley (David) Shwaluk; grandchildren Fr. Zachary Shwaluk OSBM; Marie (Tyler) Jivan; Katherine (Scott) Kirkpatrick; Carolyn (Cody) Fuhrmann, Rosanna (Jordan) Arenthals, Stephanie (Colby) Fox; son Ken Elash; granddaughters Emily and Nikola; great grandchildren Matthew, Nathaniel, Leo, Mary, Sophia, Scarlett and June Elash; Jack, Lily and Kate Johnson: Caleb Jivan; Isaiah and Grace Kirkpatrick; Rachel, Emma, Nathan, Gabriel, Luke and Eli Furhmann; Henry, Georgia, Evelyn and Jacob Arenthals; sisters-in-law Sonia Lutz and Helen Lutz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, March 2nd 2019 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna with Fr. Basil Malowany as celebrant. Marie Jivan was the epistle-reader, the crossbearer was Emily Elash. The interment took place in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Tom, Ted and Dave Elash, Colby Fox, Pat Sereda and Chad Johnson serving as the casketbearers. A reception followed in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Service Details.
