POPIK - On February 12, 2019 Olga Marie Popik of Foam Lake, widow of Nick Popik entered eternal rest peacefully at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her parents Michael Novak, Maria Musyj, step father Roman Sereda; her husband Nick & their son Gerard; her siblings Anne, Julia, William, Joseph, Walter, Andrew, Stella, Stephanie, and Michael; grandchild Jody, great-grandchild Talia; step siblings Miroslaw, Mike, Joe, Emily and Emil. Leaving to mourn her passing: bothers Jerry and Dennis. Children: Larry (Irene, Linda); Gerardine (Mike Woitas); Dennis (Shirley); Lauraine (Wayne Anderson); Theresa (Ken Younghans), 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren. After completing Teacher's College in Saskatoon in her late teens, Olga taught at Hudson Bay and Gilbert schools. On August 02, 1944 Olga married Nick Popik. They farmed on the Harry Popik homestead, where they raised 5 children. During this time Olga taught at West Bend school for a short term. In the 1960's she worked at the West Bend Hotel for five years. Nick and Olga had beautiful voices and loved to sing. Olga would often cantor in church where she was also president of the Model Farm Ladies Aid. An avid gardener, cook and seamstress, she was a perfectionist in whatever duty lay before her. In 1972 she began working at the Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home. In 1973 Nick & Olga gave up farming and moved into Foam Lake. She received her Geriatric Aid certification in 1975 and continued to work until her retirement in May of 1987. Retirement found her continuing educational classes, volunteering as a companion and driver for the shut-ins, some travel within Canada, Expo in the 1980's and Europe in 1990. Olga's faith in God was unshakeable, as was her trust in the goodness of humanity. Sometimes considered "fearless", taking on life's experiences with an enjoyable vengeance. She lived by His word: Thy Will be done! Mom, Baba, companion, thank you for loving us! You are sadly missed. Prayers were held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 and the Funeral Liturgy on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Foam Lake with Rev. Father Basil Malowany as the Celebrant. The cantor, Colette Karapita led in the singing of the responses. The cross bearer was Nicholas Younghans and the memorial book attendants were Jessica Younghans and Ella Woitas. Serving as palamar was Mike Woitas. The interment took place in Model Farm Parish Cemetery with Taras Woitas, Kevin Woitas, Michael Woitas, Lance Exner, Tanner Fee and Morgan Skinner serving as the casket bearers.
