Obituary of Olga Piasta

Olga Piasta was born June 7, 1927 on a farm in the Homefield area of Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of Dymetro and Mary Piasta. She had three older sisters: Anne, Rose and Sophie, three older brothers: Nick. John and Bill, a younger brother Walter and her youngest sister Sylvia. Olga attended Beaver Hills School which was walking distance from her home. She finished grade 9 and took grade 10 correspondence courses from the Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Living on a busy farm and having her older siblings move away, she felt she needed to give up her schooling and help her parents with the all the work on the family farm . Olga met her husband Tony, in 1946, when he came to invite her family to his brother Bill's wedding. It was love at first sight. They dated for a few months and were married at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on June 1, 1947. Olga and Tony were married 50 years. They spent their first year of marriage helping Tony's dad on the farm which was near Ituna, Saskatchewan but soon moved to Ontario for the next 10 years. They had their first three sons there: Ken, Dave and Ray. By 1957 they decided the prairies were still home and moved back to Regina, Saskatchewan, where their fourth child Diane was born. In a few years Tony decided he wanted to run his own business so Homefield, Saskatchewan was their next home. It was at this time their youngest son Don was born in Ituna Sask. Olga was an awesome housewife but also worked outside the home. She sewed piecework in a clothing factory in Ontario before having children. She then worked alongside Tony on their commercial vegetable farm which was also in Ontario. Once they moved back to Saskatchewan Tony and her managed and owned a small country store and gas station which also contained a post office. Olga was the Post Mistress for the Homefield Post office that was located in the store. For 15 years she worked together with Tony at Homefield and cared for her husband and five children. In 1976, Olga and Tony moved to the town of Ituna, Saskatchewan where mom was bookkeeper and receptionist for Tony's "Gulf " fuel business. They both retired by 1980. Olga loved to garden with Tony. She loved to crochet and quilt, making many beautiful items for her children and grandchildren. Olga was a great cook and baker. Everyone's favourite were her jam jam cookies made with her own homemade raspberry jam. She was a member of the UCWL at Sacred Heart Parish where she spent a lot of time volunteering at perogy bees, bake sales, weddings and many other hall functions. She was also a member of the Ituna Social Club volunteering at many bake and craft sales. Olga and Tony enjoyed many wonderful times spent with their children and grandchildren, taking trips to BC, Alberta, Regina and Saskatoon to visit them. Tony passed away in 2000. Olga spent a few years in their family home and eventually moved to the Sunshine Manor in Ituna the spring of 2004. She started to need more help with cooking, cleaning and her laundry so she decided to move to St. Anne's care home in Ituna in 2014. This was to be her last home. Olga was a loving daughter, a kind and caring sister, a devoted wife, a wonderful giving selfless caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a huge adoring heart for her 5 children, daughter-in-laws, son-in-law, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Olga got pneumonia and was in Melville hospital recuperating. She developed some unforeseen complications while in hospital and passed away Monday January 28 at Melville Hospital. Olga loved the Lord and knew Jesus as her personal Savior. We know she is now pain free and happy and in the presence of God. We love you mom, baba, great-baba and will miss you always!
