Obituary of Jason Blair Schoffer

SCHOFFER - Mr. Jason Blair Schoffer of Melville, Saskatchewan passed away on Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 in his home. He was 62 years of age. Jason Schoffer was born on April 21, 1956 in Melville; a son of John and Violet (nee Osicki) Schoffer. He grew up in Melville, attending Miller Elementary School and later graduating from the Melville Comprehensive High School. Jason hired onto the Canadian National Railway in 1974 as an engineer, where he would love and breath his job for the next 44 years. Jason loved to spend time hunting, fishing, and travelling with his friends. He was also an avid sports player, playing on various hockey and baseball teams. Jason was a proud member of the 1973 Melville Midget Elks Baseball Team and helped them to win their first ever Canadian Midget Baseball Championships. The 1973 team was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. He would still take every chance he could to enjoy a round of golf with his constant golf partner and long time friend, Don Gares. The two would constantly debate whether or not Jason's beloved New York Yankees would have the team to beat. During the summer of 2008, the duo took Jason's dream trip to the old Yankee stadium to watch the Yankees and Twins battle it out. He ended up bringing home a jacket that soon became a staple in his closet. In 1992, Jason's life was forever changed when he entered into marriage with Holly Smith on November 7. With this marriage, Jason became a father to Holly's son, Brandon. That same year, the couple welcomed their daughter Jayla. From that point on Jason devoted his life to being the best husband and father he could be, and finding as many ways possible to spoil his children. In 2012 Jason's son, Brandon, married Pam Mogenson, becoming a father to Pam's daughter Lacy. Together Brandon and Pam welcomed daughter Lily, making Jason a grandfather for a second time. Jason took great pride in his granddaughters and enjoyed spoiling the next generation as well. In October of 2017, Jason was thrilled to walk his daughter down the aisle, and welcomed his son-in-law with open arms. Of course, he asked if he could wear his Yankee jacket. Jason had a great love for his two dogs, Lucy and Emerald, taking them for car rides on his days off to check work and to get the mail. Jason is predeceased by his father John, mother Violet, brother Wayne, and his sister Peggy. Jason is survived by his wife Holly, son Brandon (Pam) Stevens, daughter Jayla (Raymond) Bucsis, granddaughters Lacy and Lily Stevens, sister Darlene, brothers Dale (Janet) and Brian (Anna), his mother-in-law Della, sister-in-laws April (Kevin) Regnier, Shelley (Paul) Levenick, and Sandy Lee (Heinz Wanders), brother-in-law Billy Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
