Obituary of William 'Bill' Wright
William (Bill) Walter Wright, of Yorkton, SK, passed away peacefully from this life, at the age of 70, the morning of Sunday, March 4th. As Bill's health declined over this past year, and during the last few days of his life, he was continuously surrounded and supported by his loving family and friends. Bill's journey began on June 21st, 1947 in Lloydminster SK. Born to parents Eleanor and Ken Wright, Bill grew up on a farm outside of Lloydminster and was a loving big brother to both Tedd and Greg. Yorkton became home to Bill in Grade 10 where he attended Yorkton Collegiate and met the love of his life. Bill was a kind, generous person who worked so hard to build a life that he loved and valued dearly. As an articling student, he joined his soon-to-be father-in-law at what was known as Parker Quine in 1965. He then married his love, Vivien, in 1968. From there, he took his passion for numbers and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1971 and became partner in 1974. Bill continued to work for the same accounting firm for over 50 years. He took great pride in his work and most importantly, he valued the relationships he had with those he worked with. "Colleagues" and "clients" quickly transformed into life-long friendships. He enjoyed being an active member of the community and was proud to call Yorkton home. Bill served as the chair of the Computer Scoring and Results Committee for the Saskatchewan Winter Games held in 1986 and was actively involved for several years with the Yorkton Exhibition Association where he served as president and was inducted into the Senate. He also held various roles with the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton. His contributions were valued and recognized as a recipient of the Distinguished Community Service Award in 2003. A local hockey fan, he also enjoyed serving as Treasurer for the Yorkton Terriers Jr. Hockey Club (2008-2010). Family and friends meant everything to Bill. He was an exceptional husband but even more an amazing father to his two daughters, Audra and Jennifer. Bill sought to instill in his children the importance of helping others, a commitment to family and friends, and the power of a kind heart. Through his loving and fun spirit, and involvement in the community, he formed powerful friendships that lasted right up until his final days. Bill enjoyed and developed a passion for golfing with his friends in the summer. More recently, he found joy in travelling south in the winter to continue golfing and spending time with close friends. But above everything else in life, Bill loved his grandchildren and spent every moment he could with them--whether it was attending sporting events, music festivals, or just relaxing on the couch with a good movie never missing an opportunity to spend time with Liam and Tate. He also enjoyed FaceTime, as well as reading countless books, with his little granddaughter Lena. Left to celebrate Bill's life is his wife Vivien, his two daughters and their families, Audra & Chad and grandsons Liam and Tate; Jennifer & Kelly and granddaughter, Lena; brothers Tedd & Debra and Greg as well as many good friends. Bill was a kind and generous person who treasured every moment with his family and friends. His family asks that you spend time with your loved ones and take pause for just a moment and make a toast to enduring friendships -- lifelong and beyond. That is what Bill would wish for you.
