Obituary of Fred Jemieff

Fred Jemieff of Yorkton and formerly of the Kamsack district passed away peacefully at Yorkton Regional Health Centre on January 31, 2018. He was 82 years of age. Fred was born on the family farm near Kamsack on June 4, 1935, the youngest child of Cecil and Kate (Sturgeoff) Jemieff. On July 23, 1955 he was united in marriage to Nettie Skotnitsky of Stornoway. Fred and Nettie lived and worked in Toronto briefly before Fred moved back home to take over the family farm. Fred and Nettie farmed and raised their two sons Jerry and Russell. Fred farmed until his retirement at age 70. In 2013 Fred and Nettie moved to Yorkton. Fred loved farming, often the first farmer to seed the crop, and the first farmer to harvest it in the district. He took great pride in high quality yields in his mixed grain operation. He also raised cattle and in later years, beautiful Arabian horses. He was seen most often always with a dog at his side, most recently his beloved Labrador Holly. Fred was a member of Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He and Nettie enjoyed travelling to Florida, California and Arizona. They also liked to entertain and spent many evening's playing cards and enjoying the companionship of family and friends. Fred was predeceased by his father, Cecil, his mother Kate; brothers-in- law Paul Goddard, Carl Skotnicki, and most recently his sister Mildred Goddard in 2017. He leaves to mourn and celebrate his life his loving wife of 63 years, Nettie; his son Gerald (Laurene) of Yorkton; son Russell (April) of Olds, Alberta, four grandchildren, Reid Jemieff, Diana Jemieff-Hayes (Ian), Jenna Jemieff and Ethan Jemieff and one great granddaughter, Hannah Willene Hayes who was born on his birthday last year. He also leaves to mourn his sister Paulette Skotnicki of Yorkton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Bohdan Lukie C.Ss.R. officiating. The responses were led by Bernadette Gabora and members of the Parish Choir. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke with sons Gerald & Russell serving as the urnbearers. A reception followed the interment, tributes were given by grandchildren Jenna Jemieff, Reid Jemieff and Diana Jemieff-Hayes. Reid and Diana also sang 'The Gift of Love' with accompaniment by Laurene Jemieff. Memorials were to the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com.
