Walter Mysko

Obituary of Walter Mysko

Walter Mysko, 1931 – 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Mysko of Yorkton, announce his peaceful passing on Wed, June 20, 2023, at 92 years of age, with his daughters Valerie and Audrey by his side.  He was predeceased by his gentle and caring wife Mary (Kluchka), and is survived by his daughters Valerie and Audrey, son-in-law’s, Gord and Launey, grandchildren Naomi (Andrew) and Alex, and great-grandchild, Brody.

Walter was born on May 16, 1931, the youngest of six boys, and raised on the family farm northwest of Wroxton.  To compliment his hard work on the farm, he took joy in playing the violin which led to Walter playing in several musical bands that entertained hundreds of people at dances, weddings, and other celebrations throughout Southern Saskatchewan and into Manitoba.

It was at one of these dances, when, during a break, he met the love of his life, Mary Kluchka.  It was love at first sight.  Mary and Walter were wed for 65 years when Mary passed in August of 2018.  He was so dedicated and devoted to Mary, particularly through the final years of her life.  He was by her side every day without fail.  His heart was broken when she passed.

Strong Christian values and hard work were the guiding pillars in Walter’s life of 92 years.  In all the good times, and through all of his challenges, providing for and caring to the needs of Mary, Valerie and Audrey, and their families, was always a priority for him.  Being honest and fair, was very important to him and he expected that from his family & others, in return.  Those values guided him in every aspect of his life.

Walter took joy in playing the violin, especially if there was an audience, delighting people with his polka’s, jigs, and reels, and winning several local violin competitions.  Music was a big part of his life, with a highlight being the driving trip Mary and he did to Nashville and Branson where they enjoyed, among other things, the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium. He loved getting dressed up every Halloween, and dropping by his neighbours for a visit, taking satisfaction in them not knowing who was behind that mask.  He had a special place in his heart for all animals, big and small, and would often bring home various ‘strays’ to show the girls, bring them back to health, or to adopt them.  He delighted in most recent years, in a visit from Frankie or Coco. He was a very social man and loved to visit, more than once telling Mary he was heading to Wroxton to pick up the mail and coming home four hours later after stopping in to see the neighbours on the way home.  Walter took pride in his farming vocation, providing well for his family throughout the years.

Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, we’ll miss you, but we are content in knowing that you have been reunited with your true love, Mary, and other family members & friends in Heaven, under the Father’s gentle embrace.

Walter’s family would like to thank the staff at The Bentley in Yorkton for offering a comfortable and welcoming community and living arrangements for Walter during his short time there, and to the health care professionals at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, for their kind and compassionate care for Walter, over these last few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yorkton SPCA, or to The Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan, in Walter’s memory.
