On the occasions that our family was able to visit, Uncle Mel's sense of humor certainly left an impression!
I hope that you can find peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Mel started in baseball as a pitcher but ended as a speedy centre fielder for the Melville Millionaires but Mel also played hockey for enjoyment on the farm dugout where everyone in the family learned to skate. Mel was a very good hunter with a great shot. Mel’s career as an electrician where he worked for Motters Plumbing and Heating in Melville.
Bob Ball, cousin.
As Mel was quite a bit older than me, my memories of him are limited to Xmas dinner at Grandma Ball’s. In her little home everyone gathered for Xmas dinner and I remember the 4 boys, Mel, Ray, Doug and Bob sitting in the table in the living room where all the pies began and ended by the boys. I believe there slim pickings for the rest of us, but laughter over their antics.

Shirley,
I've been thinking about some of the good things Mel did for me when I was young. Here's three: I loved to read and he gave me just the right books to match my interests, hard-cover books, at that. One year I was enthralled with a song on the radio (and probably the singer, too) and he surprised me with the record. When I was waiting to leave for my first high school dance, he took my hand, twirled me around in a circle and gave me a nice complement - I forget what he said, though, it's been sixty years! I'm grateful he was my big brother.
Since I can remember, he pronounced my name in a unique way and I can still hear him say it. That feels good, too. David and Geoff want me to add that he made a great brother-in-law and uncle, full of good stories and fun!
With sympathy and love until we're together on Friday,
Iyla, David and Geoff Ottoson

This summer marked 50 years since I was Mel's Journeyman's Apprentice. He was a good teacher, and a fun one as well. We enjoyed lots of joking and laughter on the jobsite, yet we always got the work done on time. Deepest condolences. Ken Pilon
