Lewis Lozinski

Obituary of Lewis Lozinski

Lewis was born July 14,1929 on the family farm 6 mi. SW of Norquay, the third child of Mike and Julia Lozinski.  He attended Moss Lake School and completed 8 grades there. He took Grades 9 and 10 thru correspondence school. He was enrolled at Campion College in Regina for Grade 11 with the hopes of entering Teacher’s College after. However, there was a shortage of help on the family farm for the harvest that year and so he stayed home to help. The harvest ended up lasting well into October, too late to return to school. So, Lewis stayed home and worked on the farm. He remained on the farm until his retirement in 2002.

Lewis married Gloria Zawislak at St. Thomas R.C church in Norquay on September 1, 1957. Their first daughter, Brenda, was born in 1958 and second daughter, Sandra (died in childbirth) in 1962. Lewis and Gloria lived with Lewis’s parents until 1960 when they were able to purchase their own home. It only had 2 rooms plus an attached porch and many a weekend there would be a least 6 to 10 of their friends in the living/bedroom visiting! The 2-room house was home for the next 10 years. In 1970 Lewis was able to build a proper home complete with indoor plumbing and running water.

Lewis gave up farming in 1981, rented out his land and began working at Larson and Anderson Hardware and Implements Ltd. In Norquay.

Lewis was active in church activities. He was an alter server at St. Anne’s R.C Church southwest of Norquay and sang in the choir there. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, served as secretary-treasurer at St. Thomas Church for many years, sang in the choir at St. Thomas, and was a Eucharist Minister at both St. Thomas and St. Gerards.

Gloria and Lewis were fortunate to have been able to enjoy some travel time. They took in Expo 86 in Vancouver, visited Hawaii, Fatima and Lourdes, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes, DisneyLand, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

When the grandsons came along Lewis took great pleasure in taking the boys fishing, camping, tractor driving and spoiling them rotten when they would come to visit.

In 2002 Lewis and Gloria sold their farm to their neighbor, Lionel Danielson and retired to Yorkton. The move proved to be a very good decision as they realized they knew many people from the surrounding area who also made Yorkton their retirement home. They also made new friends thru their involvement with St. Gerards.  While in Yorkton they enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends, bowling, playing bingo and meeting friends for coffee at Tim’s or McDonald’s. Lewis also enjoyed tinkering and fixing things in his garage and to keep active, Lewis liked to help his neighbors shovel snow in the winter. They still made many trips back to Norquay to make sure it was still there!  In 2022 Lewis became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home and passed away peacefully there on Dec.28,2024

Lewis was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Julia Lozinski, infant daughter Sandra, siblings Anne Adams, Bronie Lozinski, and Virginia Wrishko, brothers-in-law Walter Adams, Ron Wrishko and Joe Strocen, sister-in-law Vernes Lozinski, in-laws Frank and Lena Zawislak and good friend Bonnie Guliak.

He will be loving remembered by his wife Gloria of 67 years, daughter Brenda (Derek) Ashing, grandsons Adam, Tyler and Sean (Emily) Ashing, brother Adolph (Stella) Lozinski, sister Delores Strocen, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

Lewis was a kind, gentle and quiet soul who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
