Obituary of Alexander Hovrisko

HOVRISKO – The family of Alexander "Wally" Hovrisko of the Wroxton district, beloved husband of Sharon Hovrisko, sadly announce his passing on January 8, 2025. He was 83 years of age. Alexander "Wally" Vladumir Hovrisko was born August 01, 1941 to parents Louis and Anne (Shordee) Hovrisko. He is survived by sister Zonia and was pre-deceased by brother Paul, nephew Chris, and his parents. Wally grew up on the family farm and attended Clarkoff School then St. Joe's in Yorkton. After high school he helped on the family farm. He married Sharon Farwell on April 23, 1966, at the rural church St. Victor in Saskatchewan. Wally was very active with the Knights of Columbus and also worked as a guard at the police stations in Kamsack and Yorkton. He also was a Commissionaire in the Yorkton branch. He had a great love of farming, growing organic crops for many years and raising dairy cattle for 17 years. Wally loved sharing his thoughts on "Coffee Row" and keeping up to date with the Squawk Box news channel. He enjoyed the theories of "Ancient Aliens" on TV and often attended daily mass and said his rosary nightly. His memory will be cherished by his wife Sharon of 58 years and his sons Simon, Austin, Adrian, Alan Collo (son-in-law), Jeff Possberg (son-in-law), daughters Melody Collo, Janice Ledoux, and Rhonda Wright, and five grandchildren. A Funeral Liturgy was held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kamsack, with Rev. Fr. Ivan Simko as celebrant. The responses were led by members of St. Josaphat's Parish Choir. Austin Hovrisko served as cross bearer. Jeff Possberg read the epistle. The interment followed in the Garden of Tranquility, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Simon Hovrisko, Austin Hovrisko, Adrian Hovrisko, Jeff Possberg, Stan Biblow, and Raymond Galye serving as casket bearers. Memorial donations in Wally’s memory may be made to St. Josaphat’s Church (114 West Ave., Kamsack, SK S0A 1S0) as gifts of remembrance.
