It takes a great deal of courage, patience and determination to do what Lillian and Ming did. So much was left behind when they emigrated to Canada. With hard work they established Ming's Cafe to which people from many communities travelled to enjoy food that was fresh, tasty, prepared with consistent care. Customers were greeted warmly, and remembered even if their visits were infrequent. They helped family members get established. I, and my family, were most familiar with Check's in Saltcoats, then Dick and Linda's. I had the privilege of teaching some amazing students and also officiating at weddings and funerals. Lillian and Ming and their extended families contributed much to the communities in which they lived and operated good businesses. They lived with great respect for the grandmas , for family, neighbours and friends. And, they deserve the respect and care we can offer them. To Ming, Ge (and his family), to Jack and Diane, to Diane's mother, to the members of the Check Wong family that sadly I have lost touch with, I send my prayers and my sympathy. I celebrate the memory of your wife, mother, grandmother, aunt . I celebrate her gentleness, her smile, her graciousness in all her treatment of others. God's love and blessing be with you, friends.
